As social media continued to be awashed with more revelations coming out from the probing of the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu , his lawyer , Barr. Oluwatosin Ojaomo has condemned the media persecution of his client.
Ojaomo described the media trial as uncalled for stating that Magu has served the country meritoriously for five years and does not deserve such treatment.
He said none of the former chairmen of the commission were treated in such a degrading and embarrassing manner.
Ojaomo who spoke with SaharaReporters on Monday berated the way and manner Nigerian government resorted to media trial since his client has not been convicted.
He said ” The way the matter is being reported is unfair . Magu has served his country meritoriously in the last five years.
Is this the treatment they suppose to be giving that kind of person ?
Ojaobo explained that Magu does not sell recovered property and assets as being claimed in the media. He added that many of the property that were recovered were handed over to government agencies to use as offices.
” So I am just worried where all these information are coming from , that he sold property and he cannot account for them. ” The lawyer said.
Magu had remained in custody at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Abuja, since his arrest on Monday by a combined team of Department of State Services and police officers to face a panel at the Aso Rock Villa.
Ojaomo has written a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, demanding his client’s release on bail.
